Luis Uguina, Chief Digital Officer at Macquarie speaks about how all of these changes can be made without interrupting the customer’s ability to have access to their online banking. “We can change any product in real-time, without any customer impact, and test changes on a limited number of customers,” said Uguina. New software can be released numerous times a day if needed, ultimately improving customer experience and increasing developer productivity.

Emirates NBD Group
Emirates NBD Group designed the first mobile-only banking application, Liv. It has since become the fastest-growing bank in the UAE which left them struggling to keep up. The head of Liv. at Emirates NBD Jayesh Patel explains, “We had limited capacity in our servers, so every time we grew quickly, we needed to add more hardware. We couldn’t easily plug in with partners to get their services to our customers quickly and cheaply.” In search of a solution, those at Emirates came across Red Hat’s OpenShift Container Platform.
Using the platform, Emirates bank was able to create Sahab, a flexible private cloud platform and the first of its kind in the Middle East. Sahab hosts everything needed for their mobile bank app Liv. giving them unlimited server capacity that isn’t affected by sudden growth. Additionally, they’re now able to update their app instantly with new features that have allowed them to take on new partners and grow even further.
Vice president of Cloud Platforms at Emirates NBD Ali Rey explains how this has made them more efficient, saying “With our DevOps pipeline and Red Hat, we did a proof of concept for WhatsApp banking in 3 days. Previously it would have taken 6 months, maybe even a year.”
Deutsche Bank
Deutsche Bank is the leading bank in Germany serving private, corporate, and fiduciary clients. When seeking a solution to improve its back-end technology, they discovered Red Hat’s OpenShift Container Platform. The goal was to not only make things easier for their developers but to improve the customer experience as well.
At Deutsche Bank, they used Fabric and OpenShift to create an open-source platform and give access to powerful technology to all of its developers. “What we’ve set out to do with Fabric and OpenShift is to democratize IT,” said Tom Gilbert, managing director, global head of cloud, application, and integration platforms with Deutsche Bank.
